What to Expect

Foret Hill South is the sister community to Forest Hill north, this patch of land is closer to downtown and shows this in the addition of more shopping and services. The area runs from Eglinton in the north, Bathurst in the west and Lonsdale and St. Claire in the south. There are high rise buildings and commercial offerings lining the main streets with the interior streets being almost exclusively residential. Theses interior streets are filled with individually designed single detached house. Many of these are beautifully landscaped even though they sit on smaller city style lots. The upscale atmosphere is heightened by the trees and attention to greenspace. Back out on the main streets one can expect to find original local goods, the convenience of chain retailers and many day to day services. There are auto services as well for this driving community. There is TTC streetcar service on Bathurst and St. Clair and subway service just steps over at St. Clair W station and the Eglinton line as it emerges.

Demographics

Forest Hill South is another working age neighborhood. But unlike Forest Hill north, the families here have more older youths than young children and there are more seniors. In fact, this area shares the senior demographics of Yorkville and Casa Loma with nearly 40% more senior residents. These senior are favouring living with family. The gap between single residents who live alone and multiperson families is much smaller here as well. The most noticeable difference is that in the South there are almost as many residents living in single detached homes as there are in highrise buildings. There are also a higher percentage of mid rise dwellings. The day to day life in Forest Hill South is energetic suburban experience, in an urban setting. The majority of commercial activity is confined to the major streets. Bathurst is a thoroughfare with gas stations and convenience stores. Eglinton offers refined dining and casual eateries with fresh bagels and coffee shops. It also has an excellent pediatric clinic and upscale retailers. Along Lonsdale there is a cluster of one-of-a-kind shops with local retailers unique finds. Spadina Rd offers banks, services, fitness studios and health and beauty services.  Around the corner St. Claire offers up a giant slice of suburban life with the a huge Loblaw’s and Joe Fresh outlet with plenty of parking. Once inside the quiet interior, you’ll have no idea these existed. It’s a peaceful community filled with large single detached homes that are luxurious and most have been refinished with modern updates. The streets are wider here, with many speedbumps and plenty of trees. The children in the area have on offer, two of the  best private schools in Canada. Upper Canada College is a boys school and the Bishop Strachan school is for girls.

Having it all. This is the best of both worlds. You get the charm of locally owned shops, services and retailers, on vibrant walkable city streets. You also get the quiet charm of large, single detached homes on tree lined streets. Driving. You can comfortably get around in Forest Hill South by car for daily errands and there is quick highway access at the Allen. Not driving. When you want to get into downtown, the TTC will offer service, in particular this is useful for those in the buildings on the exterior streets.
