What to Expect

Britannia, also known as Britannia Bay and/or Britannia Village, is a stunning group of neighborhoods in Ottawa’s west end. The area is located right along the Ottawa River and across from Aylmer, Quebec. Britannia originally consisted of cottages and summer homes but now there's a great mix of housing.

Alongside many family-friendly neighborhoods in the city, Britannia Village is a safe and wonderfully multicultural location with a ton of activities to enjoy. Britannia Beach is a family-fun destination for all ages to enjoy and the Belltown Dome is perfect for recreational activities such as skating and hockey. Schools, churches, and shopping centers are all within a quick drive or walk.  OC Transpo provides extensive service to this neighbourhood. Homes range from modest cottages, duplexes, semi-detached and apartments to upscale homes, so there’s a guarantee that you can find a place that fits your lifestyle and feels like home to you.

Britannia Village remained a summer cottage community until after WWII, when large numbers of returning veterans moved to the area in search of affordable housing.

The area is a mix of high and low income housing; the community is incredibly diverse and consists mainly of younger/middle aged families and multi-generational households.

The area attracts those who enjoy spending time outdoors as there is river access, parklands, a beach, recreation opportunities, and a bike path in the neighbourhood. The bike path extends all the way from Britannia to the Parliament buildings downtown, roughly 12 kilometers.

Britannia Village is home to the Britannia Yacht Club, where they try to make memberships affordable for everyone. Not only is there sailboat racing nearly every night, there’s everything from movie nights to yoga to committee meetings, the club is alive and active all year long. Thanks to convenient OC Transpo routes there is easy access to the bustling stores, restaurants, and movie theatres that are located in the streets of Britannia.
