Positioned in the southern half of the Halifax Peninsula and bounded north to south by Quinpool Road and South Street, the South End is definitely a lively spot to live. It is a charming neighbourhood with wide, boulevarded streets and lush trees that change beautifully with the seasons. The area is known for its student demographic due to its close proximity to the countless universities in Nova Scotia's capital and the abundant supply of wood-paneled houses available for rent. Nevertheless, families of children and adults mix well into the area, as it is known to be a pleasant, safe and affordable place to reside.

Dalhousie University, St. Mary's Univeristy, King's College and NASCAD are just a few reasons why  young adults have inhabit the neighbourhood. The youthful population is definitely tangible. But that has yet to scare away families and older adults from sharing the South End space. Students are respectful of family space, making the South End a safe haven to raise children and grow old. 

Lifestyle

As a student-based neighbourhood, the overall vibe of the area shifts from season to season. Fall and Winter is filled with back-to-school buzz and young adults liter the streets on their walk to and from class and the bar. However, by late Spring most courses have come to an end, causing a change of pace in the area. When school is out and students have vacated the university city of Halifax, the area is a lot quieter and more peaceful. The area is has an overall laidback vibe and can often feel like a secluded haven from the downtown buzz.

The South End is a very lovable and diverse neighbourhood in Halifax. As a student, you are guaranteed to run into your classmates as soon as you step out the door. Coburg Coffee is a great study spot with locally famous java. If you need a break from studying you can grab pizza from Jubilee Junxion or Triple A, two notoriously competitive convenience stores located across from each other on Jubilee Road. Dalhousie University provides many community programs and services, like group fitness classes at the Dalplex or child darecare, allowing residents of all ages to get involved. And despite being located on the opposite end of town, Downtown Halifax is only a short and pleasant walk from the South End. Furthermore, residents are able to enjoy the less toursity views of the Atlantic Ocean from the many docks and shores that lead to the Northwest Arm and Southern Peninsula.
