Mount Pleasant West is a part of the Yonge and Eglinton and Yonge and Davisville areas. It is hot with young urban professionals and saw a 20% growth between 2006 and 2011. Unlike its neighbor to the east, Mount Pleasant West is densely populated, nearly as much as neighborhoods in the downtown core and with good reason. This area has it all. Demographics

It is hard to believe that in Mount Pleasant West there are nearly 55% fewer young children than the average in Toronto, when just next door, streets away, there are nearly 20% more. Young professionals are flooding the area and there are nearly 20% more than the city average.  There are slightly fewer seniors in the area and those that do reside there tend to live alone. It’s a high rise life in this neighborhood. There are single detached homes on the south side of Eglinton but the density is housed in the groups of high rise apartments on the exterior streets and towards the north. An overwhelming majority of people live alone. Though there are not many children in the area those that do reside there are mostly between the ages of six and fourteen. Most residents speak English but there are many Farsi, Spanish and Russian speaking households. The average income is just below the city average at around $60,000, but there are an average number of low income residents.

Lifestyle

Get started early in Mount Pleasant West. There are cafes and coffee shops to enjoy both independent and commercial. You can have your favourite cup of Joe before hopping on the subway into downtown, or you can work locally with the large and energetic commercial area. You’ll have to tear yourself away from shopping to get to work. It won’t be easy with all of the great retailers available. The area is also rife with salons and beauty services, have your hair done, get lashes, a manicure or a facial. There are also many fitness options and health food outlets. In the newer condos there are gyms and other amenities, but living in the older buildings will require you to look outside for fitness options. There are standard gyms available as well as new style studios like Barre and Crossfit. If you want to do your own cooking there are major commercial grocers, but the area restaurants will tempt you away from your kitchen. Like the downtown core, there are choices in every category from quick service, takeout options to the best names in fine dining. If all of these options aeren’t enough you, there is a huge movie theatre available across the street. It also happens to be right on top of the subway. Fifteen minutes gets you right into the heart of downtown and all of the nightlife and recreation options there.
